Nobody enjoys getting into a cold vehicle on a chilly winter morning.
But those who warm it up ahead of time by running the engine outside while they’re inside finishing that extra cup of coffee can be fined up to $60 in Colorado under the state’s “puffer law.”
Leaving an unattended vehicle running, for any length of time, is against Fort Collins city code.
“No person driving or in charge of a motor vehicle shall permit it to stand unattended without first stopping the engine, locking the ignition, removing the key from the ignition and effectively setting the brake thereon,” according to Municipal Code 1206 .
