MYSTIC, Conn. (WFSB) - More than a dozen sea turtles weakened by cold water temperatures are now recovering at Mystic Aquarium after being transferred from the New England Aquarium.
The turtles arrived at the facility’s Animal Rescue Clinic, where staff are conducting medical evaluations and providing treatment. The goal is to rehabilitate the turtles before releasing them back into the ocean.
The turtles suffered from cold stunning, a condition that makes the animals weak and inactive when exposed to cold water for extended periods. The phenomenon occurs each year along the New England coast, with Cape Cod Bay seeing frequent cases.
