White Lake — Southeast Michigan ski resorts slalomed into a new season this week, buoyed by a layer of fresh snow and optimistic about the season ahead.
Alpine Valley, Pine Knob and Mount Holly all reopened to the public this week. Representatives at the three Oakland County ski resorts say the snow that fell the weekend after Thanksgiving didn't significantly impact their opening dates, but natural snow in the region is a great draw for their customer base.
"If the customer can see snow on the ground in their backyard, they'll come skiing," said Mari Petrice, manager for Alpine Valley in White Lake.
Metro Detroit received around 4 inches of snow overnight Saturday. That total was closer to 6 inches in Waterford, in central Oakland County.
