A sheriff’s deputy in Upstate New York could lose his job after accidentally firing a shotgun into his neighbor’s apartment on Thanksgiving, police said.
Saratoga County Sheriff’s deputy Alexander Stead, 32, of Milton, was arrested Wednesday, Dec. 3, on suspicion of second-degree reckless endangerment, the agency confirmed.
Stead, who was off duty at the time, accidentally discharged the shotgun and the round penetrated a wall separating his unit from an occupied unit at the Lilith Fair Apartments, police said. The Thanksgiving incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27.
No injuries were reported, the sheriff’s office said.
Stead was issued an appearance ticket and is due in Milton Town Court at a later date. He was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation, a sheriff’s spokesperson told Daily Voice.
