YouTube has rolled out expressive captions across all devices.

With this functionality, the video platform will now leverage AI to provide additional information on the moment-to-moment audio, communicating details line tone, volume, environmental cues and human noises.

For instance, captions for a sports game might show one sentence in all caps to denote a commentator shouting or “[gasps]” to convey their shocked reaction.

YouTube says expressive captions are now available on all English videos uploaded after October, with support for more videos rolling out over time.

This is just one of the accessibility features that Google touted this week for International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). Others include a new dark mode option, external mouse support on Android and TalkBac
