WILLOUGHBY, Ohio — An off-duty Willoughby police officer was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic near Vine Street and the Ohio 2 interchange, authorities said.
The officer was helping direct traffic at a construction site when a car hit him around 11:46 a.m., according to police spokesperson Mike Sevel.
The officer, described as one of the department’s more senior members, suffered a leg injury that is not believed to be serious. He was taken to University Hospitals Lake West Medical Center for treatment, Sevel said.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police have not released the officer’s name.
