The year 2025 is ending with a rare celestial surprise - three supermoons in a row. After bright full moons in October and November, the last one in this sequence will appear on the night of December 4-5, commonly known as the Cold Moon.
This unusual run of back-to-back supermoons is not common and has happened because of a neat coincidence in the Moon’s orbit, reported India Today.
A supermoon takes place when the Moon becomes full at a time when it is also very close to Earth in its slightly oval orbit. The closest point is called the perigee. When the full moon happens around this time, it looks a little bigger and brighter than usual, sometimes up to 14% larger and roughly 30% brighter.
