Montrealers should brace for a blast of winter as frigid temperatures and possible snow squalls move into the region over the next 48 hours.

On Wednesday, flurries are expected in the evening. Environment and Climate Change Canada is warning of potential snow squalls during the Thursday morning rush hour, conditions that could sharply reduce visibility and make for hazardous roads.

About 2 cm of snow is expected from Wednesday night into early Thursday.

Temperatures will fall to –11°C Thursday afternoon, but it will feel closer to –23°C with the wind chill. Overnight, the mercury drops to –16°C, well below the seasonal average low of –8°C for this time of year.

Friday brings a return of sunshine and a high near –8°C.
