The Bozeman City Commission provisionally repealed and replaced its Unified Development Code after an hour of public comment and more than three hours of deliberation during its weekly meeting Tuesday.

The changes in Chapter 38 of the city’s code increase zoning density to provide additional housing opportunities and lays out new guidelines for building heights and uses.

Tuesday’s step is merely a provisional adoption, or ‘first reading’, of the policy, which is slated to take effect on or around Feb. 1 after a second and final scheduled reading Dec. 16. The city received more than 1,000 written comments, according to officials.
