A 30-year-old Chicago man pretended to be a 17-year-old boy from Boston on Snapchat to gain the trust of and coerce a 14-year-old girl in Massachusetts, according to court documents.
Joshua Rogers was charged by criminal complaint with one count of sexual exploitation of children. Roger was arrested Wednesday morning in Chicago and will make an initial appearance in federal court in Boston at a later date.
Rogers first messaged the girl on July 14 through Snapchat and asked her to download Signal, which is a free encrypted messaging application, according to court documents. Two days later, Rogers messaged the girl on Snapchat with his Signal username.
“What grade u in,” he asked.
Officials also confirmed conversations between the two on Snapchat regarding the girl’s birthday and age.
