A derelict historic former hotel in downtown Detroit has one more day to pay tens of thousands of dollars in overdue power bills to avoid a cutoff, less than a week after tenants received notice they would have to move out by Wednesday.
DTE Energy originally planned to shut off power on Wednesday to the Leland, a nearly century-old former luxury hotel at 400 Bagley St. that's now used as apartments. But the owner and the energy company reached an agreement Monday for the Leland to pay $57,120 by Thursday — a portion of its overdue power bills — to avoid shutoff for now, according to a filing in an ongoing federal bankruptcy case.
As long as the Leland makes the payment by Thursday, "DTE is prohibited from altering, refusing or discontinuing service to the Debtor and may not discriminate
