BOISE, Idaho — The West Ada School District (WASD) on Wednesday announced it is proposing "significant enhancements" to its safety plan.
Two major changes were proposed in WASD's news release – Campus Sentinels, or armed guards, and wearable technology. The updates would be implemented across all 59 campuses the district oversees.
West Ada stated that it is recommending adding Campus Sentinels to the budget. Campus Sentinels, as described by the district, are Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified, current or retired law enforcement officers who would be hired by the district as an additional safety measure.
Officials added that Campus Sentinels would be authorized to carry a concealed firearm on school grounds.
