A man who killed his pregnant girlfriend in Jackson will spend the remainder of his life in prison.

Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens reported Wednesday that a grand jury found Daniel Jones, 25, guilty of two counts of first-degree murder. He was given a life sentence for each offense.

Jones was arrested in connection with the January 2022 shooting death of Brianna Carter, who was pregnant at the time. The gunfire rang out in the 3800 block of Bishop Avenue. Carter was shot multiple times, per police.

The victim, who was also eight months pregnant, was transported to a local hospital, where she told law enforcement that Jones had shot her before she passed away. Jones was later located and handcuffed at a bus stop in downtown Jackson.
