The season’s first snowstorm is a thrill for skiers, and it's also making the Massachusetts ski industry very happy. It’s a tough business made more difficult by rising costs and the changing climate.

“It’s amazing how often we’re asked if we’re making snow when it’s 40 or 60 degrees. You’re making snow? No, we’d be making rain,” Carolyn Crowley Stimpson said with a laugh.

Crowley’s father Ralph purchased the Worcester County ski area in 1968. His family still owns and operates the place, and they’ve seen a lot of changes in nearly five decades.
