Mumbai is preparing to launch its first dedicated air-quality monitoring platform, the Mumbai Air Network for Advanced Sciences (MANAS), a system designed to provide hyperlocal, real-time updates on the city’s air pollution levels. Developed jointly by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and IIT Kanpur, the platform is expected to go live within six months, reported The Indian Express.
On Tuesday, Mumbai recorded an AQI of 125, classified as ‘moderate,’ according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Currently, the city depends on 28 Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS), integrated with the CPCB dashboard. While these stations track air quality over a 2 km radius, officials say that the new platform will significantly sharpen the level of detail.
