CAYCE, S.C. (WIS) - The lawyer retained by Cayce’s mayor during a recent investigation involving her was appointed the city’s new attorney on Tuesday.
The city announced that James Smith was named to the role after a vote by the Cayce City Council on Tuesday.
Smith was Cayce Mayor Elise Partin’s lawyer during an October probe into allegations of a hostile work environment. He was identified as her attorney in a document released by the city following the investigation.
The findings state a heated confrontation after an Oct. 7 council meeting between a city employee and Partin led to the investigation. Partin reportedly said something that the employee took as a slight at their credibility or truthfulness, which led to the confrontation.
