COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus City Schools will move forward with more than $50 million in budget cuts as the district prepares for what leaders are calling a cut in state funding over the next several years.
The reductions, approved by the school board Tuesday night, include eliminating administrative positions, cutting non-personnel staff and closing additional school buildings. District leaders warn that without changes at the state level, these cuts may be only the beginning.
Why the District Says the Cuts Are Necessary
According to the district, changes in Ohio’s state funding formula and budget process have created a projected $2 billion gap for public schools statewide.
