SOUTH HADLEY — The family of a preschooler left with permanent scarring after her day care aide put her in a bleach-contaminated diaper will get more than $66,000 in a settlement, according to court documents.
The child’s parents — Haleigh Wheeler and Christopher Chilson — say an employee of the Gorse Children’s Center changed their daughter’s diaper with one “that was contaminated with bleach” around May 10, 2024, according to documents filed in Hampshire Superior Court.
The girl was 4 years old at the time of the incident. She was left with permanent scarring, documents say.
The family sought action against the center on behalf of their daughter and subsequently came to an agreement on the settlement, a filing from Nov. 24 said. Now, they are seeking court approval.
