COLUMBIA, S.C. — The BullStreet District is set for another major milestone: Publix is officially moving in , marking the first grocery store to invest in downtown Columbia in more than two decades.

Hughes Development Corp. announced the project Tuesday, saying the addition of a full-service grocery store will accelerate BullStreet’s evolution and attract more restaurants and retailers to the area.

“When you have a daily traffic driver like Publix, it only attracts more and more retailers and restaurants that want to be close to that,” said Robert Hughes, president and CEO of Hughes Development.

The new Publix will be built within the district near existing anchors such as REI. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2026, according to city officials.
