Syracuse, N.Y. - An apartment fire on Syracuse’s North Side displaced six people on Wednesday afternoon.
Syracuse firefighters saw smoke coming from the roof of 720 N. Salina St. when they arrived at around 3:38 p.m., according to department spokesperson Capt. Erik Caster.
Firefighters found a small fire and a large amount of trapped smoke in a space between the second-floor ceiling and the roof.
While the fire was extinguished quickly, firefighters spent more than two hours opening up portions of the ceiling to make sure the fire had not spread.
The apartment sustained a large amount of water damage and a small amount of fire damage, Caster said.
No injuries were reported. None of the six residents who were displaced were inside the building when the fire started, Caster said.
