The FAA has instituted a ground stop at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport due to inclement weather Wednesday night.
According to the FAA, the ground stop is expected to remain in effect through 7:15 p.m. Central time, a 30-to-60% probability of an extension.
The ground stop means that flights bound for Chicago are being held at their departing airports, according to officials.
Light snow was reported around the Chicago area on Wednesday, along with scattered freezing drizzle.
That precipitation, along with dropping temperatures caused by an arriving cold front, are leading to icy conditions on area roadways and at airports, leading to the ground stop at the major airport.
We will update this story with additional details as they become available.
