West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday sought to calm anxieties over the SIR process, announcing that “May I Help You” camps will be launched across the state from December 12 to assist residents. Assuring that “no one will go to Bangladesh”, she said Trinamool workers would help people facing difficulties and accused the Centre of creating fear through the rollout.

Addressing an anti-SIR rally in Malda’s Gazole, Banerjee alleged that the SIR exercise had been implemented “cleverly” ahead of elections and accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of driving it in Bengal. “They have done it cleverly Amit Shah has done it. Either follow SIR or they will topple the government,” she said.
