An “ unprecedented and extremely challenging ” fire that started last week continues to smoulder at a Thorncliffe Park condo complex with no end in sight for the displaced residents.

Toronto Fire officials, a Toronto Building official and a representative from the Insurance Bureau of Canada gave updates at Toronto City Hall on Wednesday about the five-alarm blaze that started on Nov. 27, displacing residents from 408 units at the complex.

Toronto Fire Chief Jim Jessop said the reason fire crews are having such a tough time subduing the slow burn of particle board — sandwiched between two adjoining buildings — is because it is located in a two-inch gap that is hard to access.
