WASHINGTON - House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan on Wednesday issued a subpoena to former Special Counsel Jack Smith, demanding he appear for a private deposition related to his prosecutions of President Donald Trump.

Jordan, an Ohioan from Champaign County, is leading the GOP effort to scrutinize Smith’s investigations into Trump’s attempts to overturn results of the 2020 election and his handling of classified documents at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

The former special counsel is to appear Dec. 17 for a deposition and required to and produce documents by Dec. 12.

Smith served as special counsel from November 2022 until he resigned in January 2025. Both cases were dropped after Trump won the 2024 presidential election, as Justice Department policy prohibits prosecuting a sitti
