In a battle of first-year Big Ten coaches who had stints at Drake, it was Niko Medved and Minnesota that got the best of No. 22 Indiana and Darian DeVries, handing the Hoosiers their first defeat of the season, 73-64.

The Golden Gophers, who have losses to Santa Clara and San Francisco on their ledger, outrebounded the Hoosiers 40-25 on Wednesday at Williams Arena in Minneapolis and frustrated IU at the rim all night, blocking seven shots.

As the game ended, Minnesota fans stormed the court.

Big Ten leading scorer Cade Tyson had 17 points on 5-for-10 shooting for Minnesota (5-4, 1-0 Big Ten). IU's leading scorers, Lamar Wilkerson and Tucker DeVries, combined for 24 points on 8-for-27 shooting.

Tayton Conerway led the Hoosiers with 18 points on 6-for-11 shooting and added four steals.
