Veteran film producer AVM Saravanan, regarded as a pillar of Tamil cinema, died on Thursday morning at the age of 86 following age-related ailments. His death has prompted tributes from across the Indian film industry, which recognises his significant role in shaping cinema over several decades.
His body will be kept for public homage till 3:30 pm on Thurday at AVM Studios, 3rd Floor in Chennai, where friends, family, industry members, and well-wishers can pay their last respects.
Born in 1939, M Saravanan was the son of AV Meiyappan, the founder of AVM Productions, and took over the family’s legacy along with his brother M Balasubramanian in the late 1950s. Under his leadership, AVM Productions became synonymous with quality filmmaking and was responsible for several influential works.
