Madurai: The Madurai district police have registered a case against 15 individuals, including members of the Hindu Munnani, in connection with the violent clashes that erupted on Thiruparankundram hill over the lighting of the Karthigai Maha Deepam. This legal action follows a day of high drama involving court orders, protests, and police intervention.

Swaminathan, granting permission to light the ceremonial lamp on a specific lamppost at the hilltop, near the Sikandar Dargah. This directive overturned a long-standing practice where the lamp was lit near the Uchip Pillayar Temple.
