The City of Fresno filed a lawsuit on Wednesday against dozens of companies for allegedly polluting the city’s groundwater and soil.
Fresno is seeking compensation for the pollution damages and punitive damages to punish the companies. The lawsuit does not state how much money the city is seeking.
The big picture: The lawsuit names over 40 companies – both national and locally based – as defendants, as well as up to 300 unnamed defendants. • Defendants named in the lawsuit include 3M Company, Clovis Specialty Plating, DuPont, E. & J. Gallo Winery and Fresno Chrome Plating, among dozens of others. • The lawsuit specifically targets perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, commonly known as PFAS. • The city filed the lawsuit in the Fresno County Superior Court.
