GREENSBORO, N.C. — On Battleground Avenue, where dinner crowds mix with nightlife, fear arrived without warning.
Police said 33-year-old Robert King Jr. was found shot in a car Tuesday night and died at the scene.
Just feet away inside Speakeasy Tavern, owner Lauren Thacker said her staff witnessed too much.
“They saw things they should have never, ever had to see,” Thacker said.
Thacker said a car sat in the lot with high beams pointed at the windows before another car pulled in and gunfire erupted.
“Why here? Why on a busy street? I mean, there was a girl 20 feet away and I mean cars were coming and going, and it’s like, if that’s not enough to deter somebody then nothing is,” Thacker said.
