The equity benchmark indices recovered from early losses to trade higher on Thursday, tracking value buying after four straight sessions of decline.

The Sensex opened weak and slipped 156.83 points to 84,949.98. The Nifty also fell, shedding 47 points to 25,938.95. Both indices later reversed course. The Sensex was up 146.52 points at 85,244.78, while the Nifty gained 36.70 points to 26,024.80.

Markets had been under pressure for the past four days.

Key factors behind market rebound

1) Global cues: Asian markets were mixed, with South Korea’s Kospi trading lower while Japan’s Nikkei 225 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng moved higher. US indices closed in the green overnight. Firm global trends helped limit the downside for domestic equities.
