MURRAY – Local audiences are off to see the wizard this weekend as Playhouse in the Park prepares to present a stage adaptation of the 1939 classic movie “The Wizard of Oz.”
“Follow the yellow brick road in this delightful stage adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s beloved tale, featuring the iconic musical score from the MGM film,” the synopsis on the Playhouse website reads. “The timeless tale, in which young Dorothy Gale travels from Kansas over the rainbow to the magical Land of Oz, continues to thrill audiences worldwide.”
Playhouse Executive Director Wayne Shields-Hogue is also directing “Oz,” and he said it is probably the biggest show he has directed in his entire career. The only one that had cast of a similar size was “Beetlejuice Jr.” earlier this year, but that was an entirely teen
