Wheatridge Court at the end of Shergar Close in Abbeydale is run by Gloucestershire County Council.

The use of a former Gloucester care home as temporary accommodation for refugees will be extended for another year.

Wheatridge Court in Abbeydale has been used to help 116 people find long-term accommodation after being granted leave to remain in the UK since Gloucesteshire County Council chiefs approved its new use in December 2023 .

A person who has been granted leave to remain is legally recognised as having permission to live and work in the country.

The 36-bed property was vacant at the time and was identified as a site which could temporarily house newly recognised refugees without ‘priority need’ under housing legislation.
