The Supreme Court has asked all High Courts to furnish details of all pending trials in acid attack cases of the country.

The apex court has sought the Centre's reply on a PIL by an acid attack survivor, seeking such victims be treated as persons with disabilities for welfare schemes.

It has asked the Union Government to consider amending law to include acid attack survivors as disabled persons to accord benefits of welfare schemes.

The Solicitor General appearing for Centre assured the SC that the matter would be taken up with due seriousness.

The SC slammed tardy criminal trial in one of the acid attack cases of 2009 at Delhi court, terming it as 'national shame'.
