When I told my friends that we were moving to Ibiza, most of them sniggered, smiled knowingly, or gave my now-husband and me looks of disbelief. “Work” was a term that started appearing in quotation marks when we talked about our move, and text messages asking, “But what will you actually do?” began flowing in.

We laughed along, but inside, we knew we weren’t chasing that version of Ibiza – the one defined by nightclubs, siestas and beaches (though we do enjoy those, too). We were looking for a change from our life in Sydney, Australia, where we’d moved from London with our son, Timo, in 2020, during Covid.
