Rob Hinson returned to Camden High School as head football coach four years ago with a goal of bringing his alma mater a championship.
He led the Panthers to three sectional titles and on Wednesday night at Rutgers University they captured the school’s first-ever NJSIAA/Xfinity Group 2 championship. Hinson left an assistant’s job at Rutgers to come back to Camden.
Camden senior Talib Shakir started the scoring with a pick-six and the No. 13 Panthers notched five turnovers overall as they rolled to a 27-8 victory over No. 19 Shabazz.
“It means a lot, man, we talked about it when we won the sectional and regional, it was one of the bigger cities down here against one of the biggest cities up there,” said Hinson. “They’re a really good staff with some really talented kids, but I’m blessed
