Shubman Gil will return to the Indian setup for the T20I series against South Africa and assume vice-captaincy under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav.

Gill is already the team's designated leader in the other two formats, but a neck sprain against the visiting Proteas has ruled him out of the second Test in Guwahati and also the ODI series that is ongoing.

"Gill has recovered fully and has been included in the squad. He will be back as vice captain subject to fitness," the BCCI source told PTI.

The selection committee will pick the squad for the series on Wednesday, and the first T20I will take place in Cuttack on December 9.

The source also denied reports that Board officials are planning to hold a meeting with senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhi
