Samson, who is back to opening the innings this season, laid the platform with 46 off 28 balls. In all, he has scored 160 runs in five innings in the tournament. Vishnu Vinod struggled in the middle and managed only 43 not out off 40 balls, but Sharafuddeen's unbeaten 35 off 15 took the side to 178 for 5.
Sharafuddeen then removed Ayush Mhatre in the first over of the chase but Ajinkya Rahane (32 off 18) gave Mumbai a flying start. Sarfaraz Khan , who scored his maiden T20 hundred in the previous game, kept his form going with 52 off 40. By the time he got out, Mumbai needed 80 from the last eight overs with Suryakumar Yadav in the middle.
