Davidson lost his father, Ron, on June 1. Ron tenets guided HSE to its first state title exactly five months after his death.

Ron gave Davidson poems and quotes when he was in high school and college. The messages influenced Davidson’s coaching style.

“We believe he’s in a place where he had the best seats in the house all season,” Davidson said.

INDIANAPOLIS — “Hey, coach.”

For 29 years, those two words were Greg Davidson’s cue to walk toward the fence near the team bench where his father, Ron, stood before games.

Sometimes Ron wanted to hear the latest injury news or Davidson’s game plan. Other times, he just wanted to let his son know he was there.
