There’s a feeling of déjà vu I get in writing the review of Noah Baumbach’s newest examination of the human condition, “Jay Kelly.” The film is about someone who works in show business having a crisis of conscience who seeks reconciliation with those around him.
Which sounds exactly like “Sentimental Value,” a movie I reviewed just last week and I continue to recommend. (It goes into a second week at the Ragtag and the Stadium 14 even added a screen for it if that’s more your thing.) You may wonder why we need two films with similar premises, or why both are being touted as Oscar contenders. Each works well in different ways and, remember, filmmakers love nothing more than to make movies about people who make movies.
But it’s never what a film’s about but how it goes about it. For
