Young people are fleeing Britain. And who can blame them? The latest immigration figures make for grim reading. They show that 174,000 British people aged 16 to 34 left the country in the 12 months up to March 2025. These are all Brits. The figures don’t include, for example, young people from overseas who came here to work or study and then went home.
And the data only covers what the Office for National Statistics calls long term immigration. In other words, these are people who plan to stay away from the UK for at least 12 months, and possibly much longer. You might think that some of these young people are just going to backpack around India for a while and then come home. Well, maybe some are - but only a minority.
