Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine vetoed a bill that would have let 14- and 15-year-olds work later on school nights.

DeWine rejected Senate Bill 50 , which would have allowed these teenagers to work until 9 p.m. on school nights with permission from their parents or legal guardians. Current law bars 14- and 15-year-olds from working past 7 p.m. during the school year.

"I believe it unwise to provide for 14- and 15-year-olds to work, on a school night, that late at night," DeWine wrote in his veto message. "I see no compelling reason to deviate from current law."

DeWine wrote that the current law balances the importance of teenagers learning to work with having time to study for school, and doesn't need to be changed.
