Jon Ruben, a 76-year-old camp leader, has pleaded guilty to multiple sex offences against two boys after lacing sweets with a tranquilliser at a summer camp. The incidents occurred at Stathern Lodge in Leicestershire during July, leading to the hospitalisation of eight children and one adult. Ruben admitted to 17 charges at Leicester Crown Court on November 14. However, he denied one charge related to a sexual offence against a boy under the age of 13. During a hearing on December 4, the court decided that this outstanding charge would lie on file, meaning it will not proceed to trial. His Honour Timothy Spencer KC warned Ruben that he should prepare for a "significant sentence of imprisonment". Ruben is scheduled to be sentenced on February 6 next year. The court proceedings have highlighted the serious nature of the offences committed at the camp, raising concerns about the safety of children in such environments.
