Des (Dessy) Kenny of Galway city’s Kennys Bookshop died surrounded by his family and in the care of the staff at St Mary’s Nursing Home in the late hours of Tuesday December 2.
Born in Salthill, Dessy was the son of Maureen and Des Kenny who opened Kennys Bookshop in 1940. He was brother to Thomas, Jane (RIP), Gerry, Monica and Conor. In 1976, he married the love of his life Anne, and together they had four children – Deirdre, Dessy, Aisling and Eimear. He had eight grandchildren.
In sharing the news, Kennys Bookshop remembered him as an “outstanding” bookseller and a “great storyteller” who made the world a better place.
