Israel urged India to move towards designating Hamas and other groups operating against it as terrorist organisations, with senior officials arguing that New Delhi’s position carries strong regional influence.
Speaking to reporters in Jerusalem on Thursday, officials from Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said they expect “reciprocation" from India after Israel designated Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) as a terror group two years ago.
A senior official said the Indian government already understands the “networks and linkages" that connect Hamas, LeT and other groups.
“Our request from India is to work hard to sanction and designate these organisations as terrorist groups. Israel designated Lashkar-e-Taiba a couple of years ago, and we would like to see this reciprocated," the official said.
