FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) says the plan to temporarily fill protected wetlands in the Summit City is allowed to move forward.
In August, American Electric Power (AEP) applied to fill nearly an acre of wetlands temporarily so a new transmission line can be built to help power the local Google data center .
On Nov. 5, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers determined a permit is not necessary for AEP to conduct this project.
According to the department, a permit is not necessary because the project does not include placing dredged or fill material into U.S. waters or nearby wetlands.
