After decades-long negotiations, India has agreed to pay about $2 billion to lease a nuclear-powered submarine from Russia, moments before Vladimir Putin arrives in New Delhi for the India-Russia Summit 2025, Bloomberg reported.
The Russian-leased vessel will remain with the Indian Navy for 10 years, helping train sailors and enhance nuclear-submarine operations as India develops its own fleet. The agreement specifies that the submarine cannot be used in wartime.
The submarine is expected to be delivered over the next two years, though the project's technical complexity could delay timelines.
