Masculine details and plenty of panelling will help this bedroom feel finished 

Dear Virginie,

I’d like to decorate our bedroom to make it warmer and more personal. My favourite parts are the chair in the corner and our pendant light fixture, but I’d like to give the room a bit of a masculine feel: tobacco, deep blues, that sort of thing. Should we add a headboard, or wainscoting? We have a cathedral ceiling and we aren’t sure how that factors in, though my husband works for Metrie, so we are definitely partial to mouldings.

It’s great that you have easy access to mouldings. They could really turn your bedroom into a showstopper.

My first thought is to install heavy crown moulding at the horizontal ceiling line — the line that runs at the top of the wall, parallel to the head of your bed — and carry that around the perimeter of the room.
