A 61-year-old woman was bitten by a fox in Montvale earlier this week, police said.
It happened on Bryan Drive in Montvale on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 4:30 p.m., police said. Officers arrived and found the woman with a wound on her right leg near her calf, authorities said.
Police said the fox ran behind a nearby house after the bite. The woman was treated at the scene by Tri-Boro Volunteer Ambulance Corps and taken to HMH Pascack Valley Medical Center in Westwood for further care, police said.
Tyco Animal Control searched the neighborhood but could not locate the fox, authorities said. Police urged residents to avoid unfamiliar animals, keep pets close, and stay alert for any wildlife behaving oddly.
Officials said anyone bitten or scratched by a wild animal should seek medical attention immediately and report the incident to local health authorities.
