A French pensioner who came into an inheritance of €1m left everyone astounded with his plans for the windfall. Raymond Landy, 91, received the sum, equivalent to around £750k, following the passing of his brother in 2022.

In a surprising twist, he chose not to keep the money for himself but instead decided to donate it to the church in his hometown of La Chapelle-sur-Aveyron, France , leaving both the village and the nursing home where he resides in a state of astonishment.

His hometown is nestled in the Loiret region just south of Paris , a place where Raymond and his brother once worked side by side on their family farm and contributed to the local agricultural industry.
