PHOENIX – Every year, the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station is required to test its emergency notification system, including sirens and cellphone alerts.

The testing for 2025 is set for midday Thursday.

It will cover sirens within a 10-mile radius of the power plant at Baseline and Wintersburg roads in Tonapah, about 55 miles west of downtown Phoenix.

The sirens will blare twice for about three minutes — at noon and again at 12:30 p.m. — according to Maricopa County Emergency Management.
